The oldest expression in the distillery’s core range, Glenlivet’s quarter-century aged edition spent its final years in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks. The highlight of this whisky is its superb aromatics. Tasted from a 20ml sample, gorgeous scents of fruit cake, sweet barley, dark chocolate, vanilla and hints of bay leaf come forward. It follows in a super-soft Speysider of considerable elegance and class; A big malty burst is checked by heavy vanilla before balancing tannins kick in. Adding a few drops of water accents the sweet fruits. The quality of the liquid is matched by a sleek timber presentation box. Try it with soft cheeses or dark chocolate. 43% Alc./Vol.
